Hard Reset

 With the Commander Rules Committee unbanning Worldfire there is a discussion to be had about cards which hard reset the game. Not just the uneasy position they have on the banlist, but also the reason for or against their place in the game.

Worldfire

You know it, you love it- nobody has ever played the card. It cost 9, including RRR. Even with the implication of just needing to find any Bolt plus Mountain, there's no chance for the card to be good. That being said though, it jumped up to over $20 a copy, so if you made your money on it, good on you.

GRADE- 7/10; not a terrible card in absolute, just needs a reprint to put it back in the bulk bin.

PS- I am aware of Near Death Experience. I want to see it happen. But I don't think it's going to be a thing. Stop trying to make NDE a thing.

Sway of the Stars

What if I told you that there is a blue rare from Betrayers of Kamigawa that is TOO good for the peak Magic format E-Dee-Aech? Would you believe it?

Well if your answer was, "No Waffle, and I don't care" there is. Also, rude. 😭

But Sway of the Stars is too good, or probably, just really annoying to play against. And at this point, it might actually be safe to unban, being 10 mana and all. But, I don't think even if it did, anybody would play it, except for me. Because I am a terrible person, and I find making my opponents suffer.

GRADE- 5/10; Needs to be unbanned. Not because I need it, but because I think it would be funny to ruin someone's Johnny Combo. Also, this is technically a burn spell, so...

Worldpurge



Metal name, not so metal design. Art is pretty sick though.

Oh, right, yeah the card in play. It is legal because it empties Mana Pools causes all players to lose unspent mana. Yeah, unlike every other upheaval, you'll be forced to play with that hard reset, and no advantage.

GRADE- 4/10; QUADRUPLE Azorius, and empties my mana pool (Can't take CMC away from me either WotC), not good. But, it's basically the closest thing we'll to...

Upheaval

With MH2 printing Upheaval into Modern, we know that Sheldon will never let us have such an upsetting and powerful card. Probably banned because of the power at the time, due to pre-2011 Magic having fewer answers.

GRADE- 9/10; Keep this banned please. Or don't, I might actually like this. I already play MLD on occasion. I could just play this and MLD, while killing the chance of my opponents hitting me into oblivion.



There, are other cards which do this, but I covered the ones I would argue are the true hard reset cards. Well, except Apocalypse, but only Saffron Olive has played that. Skipping LEG DAY?!

  So, how's your New Year's Resolution going? Did you guys sign up for a gym in January like I did? If so, did you stick with it for more than a week? Are you skipping exercises that you don't like because they suck? I don't blame you, I can't stand arm day, the machines which do the most good are uncomfortable to sit in at 6'. But, you know what's not "Okay"? Not hitting legs, that's just not cool. Coach is right to be upset with Riley and Jonesy for skipping leg day. Strong legs are an important part of athletic competition, and honestly, being big up top with little legs would look funny.   Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another exciting: Blog post. Alright, a little anticlimactic I will say, but you get the gist. Yes, boys, girls and the rest I wanted to talk to you about Magic: the Gathering once again.
